Ever been ghosted?
Have you ever looked at your phone wondering...
when they'll call/text/DM
if they'll call/text/DM
why they didn't call/text/DM?
I've been ghosted. (But not by the lovely man in photo #2 -- I put that pic in here just for fun!)
And it's not just me. You probably have too. Most of us have.
(Truth be told, many of us have also been perpetrators.)
As a therapist I can tell you this happens for a variety of reasons. Most the time, it's not about you; it's about them.
Here are a few possible reasons you're being ignored:
They're overwhelmed by texts-messages-calls.
When they saw your message they were in the middle of something, so they let it go, then it slipped their mind.
They're worried if they give an inch, it'll become a mile.
They're procrastinating.
They don't know what to say.
They can't deal.
There are more reasons. If you know any, drop me an email and share your thoughts and stories.
If you want to guess who ghosted me, that could be fun too...
And if you're thinking about ghosting someone, consider an alternative. Communication is almost always the right strategy - for everyone.
