Matchmaker
Did you know I was a professional matchmaker ❤️❤️?
Well, it wasn’t my official title but I did help match up soulmates for a dating service.
When I was in grad school, studying to become a #therapist , at Columbia University in #nyc , I patched together part-time jobs to pay the bills.
On Mondays, I worked for a nonprofit doing billing (putting that undergrad accounting degree to good use!). I also did freelance writing for a social worker who needed reports written up.
But my FAVORITE part-time gig was meeting with people searching for love with the Jewish Dating Service. I’m not sure where I found this gig, but I LOVED it. Every few weeks the office called me with a new client. I’d meet the client at a Starbucks in Manhattan (I had a few faves) and we’d spend an hour or two going through detailed questions. What do you want in a partner? What’s most important? Why did your last relationship end? Do you like humor? Are you ambitious? Are you neat or messy? How important is family to you? I was in my element, having intimate talks with strangers and helping them create their future.
After our chat, I’d wish them luck, go home, and mail a bunch of forms to the corporate office. Sadly, I never knew if they found a good partner. But if by chance you signed up with JDS in the late 90s and you met a brown-haired, brown-eyed twentysomething in Manhattan for a cup of coffee and a conversation about love, I may just have had a hand in your relationship! ❤️
