Comedy Central

This is my old Comedy Central employee ID.

This job led me to a complete career shift. Yes, at Comedy Central, I decided to ditch my accounting degree and head toward the Bob Newhart and Frasier Crane universe.

You see, I was crunching numbers for Comedy Central’s ad sales department and I was bored to tears.

Every day I’d pass the time by listening to WOR talk radio psychologist Joy Brown and waiting for my co-workers to pop into my office, kick up their feet and spill all their relationship, family and life problems. I wasn’t interested in ad sales figures, but I was CAPTIVATED by my colleagues and all their issues.

I already knew I didn’t really want to be an accountant, but this sealed the deal. If I couldn’t enjoy my job at Comedy Central, with the Sklar Brothers roaming around, The Daily Show being launched and the greatest, most colorful coffee break room ever, I wouldn’t be happy in a regular business job.

So off I went to grad school at Columbia University, which was my first step to becoming a therapist, which eventually led me to become a journalist, which eventually led me to launch a celebrity talk show.

More on those other steps later…

And happily, I also moved on from this 90s look. 🤪
